All of the data has been checked and managed by BirdWatch Ireland. The data presented on the mapping system is the synthesised results produced by BirdWatch Ireland.
Data Capture Method: A co-ordinated programme of bird counts at wetland sites on pre-determined dates between September and March each winter. The counts are made by volunteers and professionals to a standard methodology.
Data Capture Purpose: The purpose of the survey is to determine the population size and annual trends in key wetland birds, and to use the data as the basis for site selection and designation.
