Water level and temperature in the Burrishoole and neighbouring catchments measured by OTT sensors
The Burrishoole catchment is a site of long term ecological monitoring, primarily focussed on the impact of environmental change (including land use and climate change) on diadromous fish and their aquatic habitats. As part of this overarching aim, the catchment has been instrumented over the years to provide relevant data describing the hydroclimate that the fish are experiencing. Water discharge (e.g. average water flow, droughts and floods) and water temperature are crucial environmental variables affecting all stages of the freshwater part of diadromous fishes life cycle. These data are collected using automated sensors (OTT min or echolog) which simultaneously measure water level and water temperature. The Marine Institute maintains 13 of these sensors for long term data collection.
