Lough Furnace, Newport, Profiling Met-Ocean Buoy - NRT Data - all sensors (2025 - present)

The Lough Furnace profiling Met-Ocean buoy is located on Lough Furnace, Newport, Co. Mayo. It was installed in September 2025 to ensure the long-term continuation of profiles collected in Lough Furnace since 2009, as the existing buoy is potentially coming towards the end of it life. Sensors have been deployed for the measurement of Temperature, Salinity, Dissolved Oxygen, pH, Chlorophyll A and Phycoerythrin. These sensors are profiled every 6 hours to a depth of 13m, stopping every 0.15m for 2 min for readings to stablise. The data are transmitted every 2 hours to the Marine Institute. This work has been funded through the EMFAF Sentinels Site project. Disclaimer: These data are real-time (GMT) and raw - they have not yet been through the full quality checking procedures. There may be short term data gaps caused by maintenance, re-deployments, or technical difficulties. The buoy is situated close to a Burrishoole Catchment, providing useful data for index catchment research as well as providing a counterpoint to similar measurements throughout the catchment and other marine Sentinel site buoys along the west coast.
