Ireland’s Ocean Economy
Data on Ireland's ocean economy is collected and updated on an annual basis by the Marine Institute in collaboration with the Socio-Economic Marine Research Unit at the University of Galway.
Reporting on Ireland’s ocean economy is based on thirteen marine-related industries, focusing on three key economic indicators: turnover, gross value added (GVA), and employment with data available since 2010
The data used in this report is compiled from published and modelled data. This includes official business statistics from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) and national datasets produced by Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) and the Marine Institute’s Irish Maritime Development Office (IMDO). This is supplemented by targeted business surveys and financial data analysis to assess individual companies’ contributions to the ocean economy. Due to the time lag in collecting and reporting national accounts and financial data, the figures for latest year are primarily estimated.
The data collected is published annually in Irelands Ocean Economy report and is accompanied by an online dashboard.
