Sand Dunes Monitoring Project 2011
Survey to assess the conservation status of eight Annex I habitats of sand dunes in Ireland. The assessment methodology was refined, ArcGIS habitat maps were updated and conservation status was assessed for reporting under Article 17 of the Habitats Directive. The project deliverables consist of a final report, an MS Access database, a Turboveg database, four shapefiles comprising habitat maps and waypoints, and the National Conservation Assessments for the eight Annex I habitats.

The shape file produced for the Coastal Monitoring Project (Coastal_Monitoring_Project_2004_2006) was compared to aerial photographs dating to 2005. In some cases, habitats which were visible on the aerial photographs were not indicated on the Coastal Monitoring Project shapefile. Likely locations were visited during the Sand Dunes Monitoring Project to ascertain whether previously unrecorded habitats were present. If a field survey confirmed that some habitats had gone unrecorded, the Coastal Monitoring Project shapefile was edited to include the habitats.
