The Urban Atlas Street Tree Layer aims to capture contiguous rows or patches of trees covering 500 m² or more and with a minimum width of 10 meter over "Artificial surfaces" in the urban areas of Dublin, Galway and Waterford. The production of the Street Tree Layers was performed on the SPOT 5 Supermode data used for the Urban Atlas 2012 production, it was acquired between March and November months with a preference for spring and late summer imagery. An interactive automated classification approach was applied to identify contiguous rows or patches of trees covering 500 m² or more and with a minimum width of 10 m. A post-processing routine was applied to provide the results in vector format. The EPA quality assessment is that overall the data has a good overall accuracy with high resolution data for the major cities of Ireland. The national verification team found that, although there is some variability in the quality between the city datasets, there is potential for uses of this data for assessments in Ireland. The EPA quality assessment is that overall accuracy of the data captured is good, however the national verification team observed significant omissions in the data and identified issues of inaccuracies in delineation. For these reasons the potential use of this data in assessments in Ireland is likely to be limited. The EPA must be notified if any errors or emissions are found. It is not permitted to distribute electronic copies of this data to any other party without the prior consent of the data holders (Environmental Protection Agency). The data source must be appropriately acknowledged.
