Water Abstraction Points
This is a points dataset of water abstraction points to support the characterisation of waterbodies for the 2nd Cycle of River Basin Management Planning. These locations were collected by RPS, upon appointment by EPA in October 2015. This dataset takes in account, among other datasets, abstraction points located in each Local Authority and also abstractions located at a portoin of IPC/IE licensed installations/facilities (waste facilities excluded).

The characterisation of waterbodies for the 2nd Cycle of River Basin Management Planning requires an analysis of the abstractions, pressures and impacts that human activities exert on Irish waters to be undertaken to identify those waterbodies that are at risk of failing the objectives of the Water Framework Directive. This data will support the characterisation of waterbodies for the 2nd Cycle of River Basin Management Planning. The majority of the data was collected from the relevant Local Authority but additional data was acquired from EPA, Irish Water, GSI, CSO, National Federation of Group Water Schemes, RPS and DECLG. It was attempted to verify the location of each point to sub-meter accuracy but this was achieved on only approx 50% of the points. This is represented in the location confidence values.
