Burren National Park Boundary Map

The Burren National Park is located in the southeastern corner of the Burren. The word “Burren” comes from an Irish word “Boíreann” meaning a rocky place. It contains examples of all the major habitats within the Burren: limestone pavement, calcareous grassland, hazel scrub, ash/hazel woodland, turloughs, lakes, petrifying springs, cliffs.

This boundary map was produced using parcel data sourced from the Land Registry dataset from Property Registration Authority of Ireland and the OSI PRIME 2 dataset.



The polygon geometry was generalised to 50M to produce this map using the Simplify Polygon toolset (using Wang-Muller algorithm method) in ArcGIS Pro 2.8 software.
