Those areas in red are most at risk from radon and are called High Radon Areas. The map is based on an analysis of indoor radon measurements plus geological information including, bedrock type, quaternary geology, soil permeability and aquifer type. The areas of the map in orange and yellow are areas of medium and low risk respectively.. The map shows the radon risk across the country in terms high, medium, and low. The map will be useful to National / Local Authorities and Agencies as to where to prioritise resources in reducing radon. The map is also a guide to householders as to the radon risk where they live. This map is the basis for the map that focusses on employers that sets out their requirements under S.I. 30 of 2019 and for the construction industry to meet the radon preventive measures requirements set out in Technical Guidance Document C. S.I. 30 of 2019 defines a high radon area as an area where the Agency predicts that more than 10% of domestic dwellings in that area will have radon concentrations above the national reference level or such other area as the Agency may determine from time to time.
