One hundred and ten EU Annex I grassland sites were monitored, 55 sites were monitored for the 6210/*6210 habitat, 33 sites for the 6410 habitat, and 22 sites for 6510. The number of GMS survey sites surveyed for each of the grassland habitats reflected their relative abundance and the110 sites were selected to represent the range of the three habitats. The study involved mapping the Annex I grassland habitats and collecting botanical and structural data from each site. Impact and activity data were also collected at each site. Surveying was by a combination of monitoring stops and full releves. Survey data have been stored in an Access database, monitoring stop and releve data are in a Turboveg database, and two ArcMap shapefiles hold habitat polygon and monitoring stop/releve point data. As well as field surveys, a review was carried out of the methodology and assessment criteria used in the baseline survey of O'Neill et al. (2013). Sites were surveyed according to the revised methodology, and criteria. Monitoring stops were recorded in the 6210/*6210, 6410 and 6510 habitats to assess Structure and functions. Full releves (species lists and percentage cover) were carried out for all monitoring stops assessed in 2015 and 2016, in 2017 full releves were recorded where there was no baseline releve but for all other monitoring stops only the basic Structure and functions assessment criteria were recorded. This change in the methodology was to increase the survey rate during 2017. Impacts and activities were recorded to assess Future prospects and an overall conservation assessment was carried out for each site. Along with other data sets collected during the current reporting period the GMS data were used to complete the National Conservation Assessments for the three Annex I grassland habitats and update the GIS files used to the fulfill reporting requirements under the Article 17 of the EU Habitats Directive.
