The protected areas for Salmonid species are comprised of the 34 Salmonid rivers, tributaries and lakes listed in the Salmonid Regulations (S.I. 293 / 1988). These Regulations also prescribe quality standards for salmonid waters, the sampling programmes and the methods of analysis and inspection to be used by local authorities to determine compliance with the standards. The Salmonid Regulations designate the "waters capable of supporting salmon (Salmo salar), trout (Salmo trutta), char (Salvelinus) and whitefish (Coregonus)" as protected. In contrast, the Habitat regulations (S.I. 94 / 1997) protect the habitats of Atlantic Salmon only. For this reason, the Salmonid Regulations are contained within the Register independently from the Habitat Regulations. The table contains the name of each Slamonid river segment, the segment code (for joining with the river segments) and a protected area code which are unique incremental numbers.
